This article describes what frequency capping is, when you should use it, and how to do so.
What is frequency capping?
Frequency capping is a technique used to control the maximum amount of times your campaign’s ads may be shown to the same home within a specific number of days.
For example, you may set a frequency cap to ensure that a home sees your ads no more than 3 times per day or 10 times per week.
When should I use frequency capping?
The goal of frequency capping is to prevent overexposure of your ads within a single home.
If you do not have a clear idea or research supporting a maximum frequency value for your brand, we recommend leaving this field blank. As a reminder, if you’d like information about the current frequency of your ads, you can run a report on your ad account’s Reports Page.
Frequency caps can be changed at any time during your campaign.
How do I use frequency capping?
Frequency capping can be found within your campaign’s “Delivery” section. Just select the arrow next to “Advanced settings,” and set your desired frequency.
As an example, the frequency cap in the image above would ensure that your campaign does not deliver ads to the same home more than three times within the same day.
NOTE: Frequency capping is only available on Awareness campaigns. It is not available on Consideration or Conversion campaigns.
