Once uploaded, your creative undergoes a two-step review: a technical check for specification compliance and a content review for ad policy alignment.
Below you will find some common reject reasons from both steps.
Technical review issues
In the initial technical specifications review, your creative may not have met the correct specifications. If this happens, you'll see an error describing the reason and you'll receive an email with that information, as well. To minimize the risk of rejection, double-check your creative's technical compliance before submission, such as ensuring correct video settings and formatting by reviewing this article.
Common technical issues and recommended solutions
Video bitrate too low
If your video bitrate falls below the minimum 6 megabits per second (Mbps), your creative will be rejected by our platform. Work with your creative team or adjust your settings upon video export in order to get the right bit rate. If you are having trouble, feel free to reach out by clicking the purple question mark in the bottom right corner.
Incorrect frame rate
If your Frame rate is not 23.98, 25.00, 29.97 FPS, your creative will be rejected. The frame rate, when exported, should match the frame rate at which it was recorded and/or edited, when possible.
Video length too long or short
If your video is under 6 seconds or over 92 seconds, it'll be rejected. Most rejections in this area are due to ads running a few seconds passed 92 seconds.
Content review issues
Once your tech specs pass the review, your creative will be in a 2-3 day manual review. If the content is prohibited by our Roku Ad Policy, your creative will be rejected. You’ll receive an email with a rejection reason describing which guidelines your content violates. To avoid delays, submit your ad creatives early to ensure there's ample time for the review process and potential revisions.
Common content rejection reasons and recommended solutions
Landing Page URL does not match Brand or Services Advertised
To validate your business and ensure compliance with our Content Relevance Ad policy, a valid Landing Page URL is required. All ad components, including text and media, must clearly represent and match the specific product, service, or brand promoted on your landing page. Although most Connected TV ads from Roku Ads are not clickable, this URL is essential for our team to verify that the advertised content aligns with the destination site.
Sensitive or prohibited categories
Roku has Advertising Guidelines that spell out what types of content we will not accept, such as sensitive categories, like violent or mature content. We suggest that you review these guidelines and look over our list of Prohibited categories before starting on your creative.
Non-english language creative
All ads must feature English audio to be eligible for approval. While we do not accept ads with non-English audio (such as Spanish), English-language ads with Spanish subtitles are permitted, provided they meet all other content guidelines.
If your creative is rejected for content, you'll receive an email explaining the reason. You'll need to revise the creative for review. It'll be subject to the 2-3 review period again. To prevent repeated rejections, carefully review the rejection reasons, address all feedback, and align your creative with Roku's requirements.
A rejected creative won't be stored in the creative library. If you feel like the rejection is unwarranted or you'd like to discuss it, please reach out to support. Regularly consult Roku Ads Manager’s resources and updates on advertising guidelines to stay informed and ensure compliance in your future submissions.
